The temperatures in Fall decrease faster than they increase in Spring. The daily average temperature on September 1 is 99, by December 1 its 60. If s mgm las vegas omeone tells you they were swimming and sunbathing in Las Vegas in the Fall it was probably not late Fall. Rain levels are lower than they are in January, February, July or August. There are two weather phenomenon that can be potentially dangerous in Las Vegas (three if you consider the rare but potentially crippling snowstorms). One is wind. Wind can happen any time of year, and gusts into the 90s have been recorded in the flat, open valley that Las Vegas is situated in. Wind is rarely life threatening, but its strong enough that you should take it into consideration when enjoying the outdoors here. The other, more serious problem, is flooding. Rain amounts that wouldn't raise an eyebrow in many locations can cause flash flooding in Las Vegas. Besides having las vegas map hard ground that isn't very absorbent, Las Vegas is in a bowl-like valley, surrounded by mountains. Water runs from on high and accumulates in low lying areas. Pay attention to flash flood watches and warnings, and unless its an emergency stay off of the roads during a flooding situation.

News reports indicate the economy in the U.S. has a lot of people tightening their belts. Industry and homeowners las vegas casino hotels alike are having to endure these hard situations. Among the hardest hit it seems is the homeowner. This market has seen home foreclosures hitting all time high rates - a fact that has the common individual reevaluating their investing habits. Case in point: the Las Vegas real estate market has suffered, too, but short-sales and foreclosures are sky rocketing. So what does this mean for investors and cash conscious real estate buyers? Opportunity! About a mile off The Strip to the west on Tropicana Avenue, the Orleans serves Steak and eggs with toast and hash browns for $3.99 at the Courtyard Café, between midnight and 6 a.m. Service is a little faster than at The Burger Joint above, and the steak is cheaper - but not a Ribeye. If you're not in a steak mood, the Courtyard Café is one of the few remaining places to have a lot of graveyard breakfast choices for fabulous prices between $1.99 and $2.99. The Courtyard Café also has Asian and Pacific food on their menu at very reasonable prices.
SPOTLIGHT: Ellis Island Casino & Brewery
Don't be put off by the outside appearance. This place is almost always busy because it draws both tourists and locals. Also plan to wait for a table, and service can be slow if you want to eat at traditional times. Fortunately, you can get a deal here at any time, 24 hours a day. And like the sign says, this is also a brewery, so you have the opportunity to try one of their several microbrews, or even their own root beer if you prefer. Next to the restaurant you'll find the bar, which is a local's favorite for karaoke. Ellis Island is located behind Bally's on Koval Lane, by Flamingo Road.
For an early traditional breakfast (Two scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy and bacon or sausage,) Ellis Island only charges $1.95 between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. for the special.
Later in the morning, or at night before crashing, you might consider New Yorksteak and eggs for $3.45 at Ellis Island. They serve breakfast between 11 p.m. and 11 a.m.
In the 24 Hour Restaurant, [yes, that is what they actually call it,] you can also get a 10-ounce Steak Dinner for $6.99. The steak comes with green beans, potato, bread, and a Beer. Overall the meal is very tasty and may be the best value meal in town. This special is not always in the menu, but if you ask for it, it is always available.
At the bar they serve Miller Genuine Draft for $1, and the show is free. While you're there, the Sundance Grill serves a sirloin steak, golden fried shrimp, soup or salad, and your choice of baked potato, rice, or fries for only $12.99.
Have a Lot of Fun for Less
With these tips it is possible to eat for under $20 a day, and still get as much as you want.
A few things to remember though: Most of the Las Vegas employees get paid next to nothing, and actually live off of their tips. Typical tips start at $1 to $2. If you happen to be a winner, you might tip a little more; you'll be surprised at the increased quality of service when you do. So please remember to appreciate the service, especially when it is excellent.
For further savings and to avoid tipping situations, here are a few suggestions:
Avoid Room Service! Room Service always includes additional charges and requires a tip for your server. Most all of the hotels have a 24 hour Café that will cost you much less. Also refer to the deals mentioned above.
A lot of people were out of work between 2005 and 2008 and there were not enough jobs to go around. Therefore there were less people looking to buy homes. These job shortages have come to an end. There have been more and more building developments of hotels, resorts and casinos. These developments reach staggering amounts of cash to build them. These have opened the way for job seekers and brought much more to the area than just pretty lights and a chance to win big. These resorts and other constructions are not the end of the overhaul of Las Vegas. However there is more being said to open in 2009, 2010 and even later than this. The amount of jobs that are free for residents is steadily growing at a very comfortable pace. The unemployment that started the meltdown of various industries within Las Vegas, including real estate is now going to turn it around and more jobs means more opportunities.

We usually visit Las Vegas every September new york las vegas hotel right after Labor Day weekend. The weather is great and we can't wait to lounge by the pool sipping cold drinks. We always pick a hotel with the best pool that is family friendly and we won't get dirty looks by bringing our boys down. The top 3 picks of our family are The MGM Grand, The Monte Carlo and The Mirage.
#1 The MGM Grand
The MGM Grand has an amazing pool complex. In my opinion one of the best in Vegas. You feel like you entered an exotic paradise with lots of lush greenery, beautiful flowers, fountains and little island connected with bridges. This massive over 6 acre paradise offers 5 swimming pools, 3 whirlpools and lazy river. The lazy river was a hit with my family. It floats under bridges, through waterfalls and ends in a little las vegas hotel luxor Lagoon with waterfall which is perfect wading pool for babies and little ones.

before you ignored the rule

The Monte Carlo pool is much smaller in comparison to the pool complex at The Grand , but we enjoyed it regardless. They are kids friendly and that's all that matters.
The Monte Carlo offers 3 swimming pools, whirlpool and kids pool. If you Cheapest Las Vegas Hotels are visiting Las Vegas with little kids you will love the enclosed kiddie pool with kids size beach chairs. The wave pool with 3ft waves was designed to simulate the ocean and is a blast for the whole family. If you want to have a swim then try the Lagoon pool. It is a nice and relaxing square pool with a waterfall. My favorite was the relaxing 400 feet of Easy River Ride. There is a tube rental as well, but you can purchase a tube inside their beach shop for around $12.00 and the rental shop will even blow it up for you. This is a real money saver for larger families or longer stay like us. After you done with it , why not pass the tube onto a new family.
#3 The Mirage
The pool at the Mirage is a series of pools connected by bridges and lagoons with cascading waterfalls in tropical Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino setting. They used to have a waterslide , but to a big disappointment of my children they closed it down. They offer raft rental to float around, but we never needed one. You can ask for complimentary life jackets for children. The pool is located close to the guest elevators just down a little promenade with few stores, coffee bistro and ice cream shop. If you will decide to order a drink take my advice and order small size. If you don't specify they will bring you a huge drink with even bigger price tag.
Just a tip: Most of the pools in Vegas say that you Caesar Palace Las Vegas are not allowed to save lounge chairs at the pool, but everybody does it. If you don't you won't get a good spot because hundreds of people before you ignored the rule. Live and Learn.
If you need to find a Las Vegas wedding gown rental, you have many choices available to you. There are many Las Vegas businesses that specialize in wedding gown rentals and they are not the only ones. Several Las Vegas wedding chapels have jumped on the bandwagon and are also offering a selection of wedding gown rentals as a way of making their establishments even more attractive to brides-to-be.Bridal Elegance is just one of the many Las Vegas businesses that offers wedding gown rentals. They offer over 550 gowns in stock in sizes ranging from 0 to 34. They also offer same day services, pick up and delivery of the gown, alterations, and a complimentary limo with your rental. found online on various websites

Lunch timemay require a sandwich special. One of the best deals is the $1.25 Hotdog, at the Gold Coast. It is available between 10 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. at the Sports Book - look for a vender's cart. Expect a Chicago Style Beef Hotdog with the works. You don't have to place any bets to take advantage of the Hotdog Vender, and there are usually plenty of seats with monitors everywhere for viewing the races or the games while enjoying your dog. (On Flamingo road, about a mile west of The Strip.)

Let's talk a little bit about how Las Vegas house foreclosures and real estate short sales work, so you can better appreciate how there can be a positive aspect in it for the wise investor.
A short sale happens when the homeowner is unable to make their mortgage payments and the bank agrees to allow a sale of the property for less than the amount owed on the property. Wonder why that is? When payments stop coming in, the banks will consider taking a lesser amount, thinking to themselves that something is better than nothing. From las vegas casino resorts the start, it must be apparent to the lender that it is impossible for them to be repaid the original amount. The property owner and buyer are linked, a sale is arranged and the bank or investment company must approve it. Once that's settled, the homeowner gets out from under a house they cannot pay for, the new property owner gets an incredible bargain on a Las Vegas home, and the loan company will get at least part of their loan repaid.
A foreclosure happens when the loan merchant has had to take steps to take the property back. Now the mortgage lender does not want the home, they are motivated sellers! With the market being down, the new homebuyer wins.
Currently, property short sales and mortgage foreclosures are a booming sector in Las Vegas real estate. These are incredible family homes hard rock las vegas hotel at unbelievable bargain prices. As it stands, these two types of home sales comprise a significant part of Las Vegas houses real estate and fortunate new house buyers are getting astounding bargains. Here are a couple examples:
Las Vegas has so much to offer beside the gambling and the nightlife. Every year there is more stuff to see and experience.

At The Burger Joint inside the Flamingo, between midnight and 6 a.m. they serve a Ribeye steak and eggs for $5.99, or a Burger and fries for $2.00. No matter what time you go, expect a 20 minute wait. They always cook the steak to a medium temperature without asking, and they throw in some hashbrowns and toast. If you go for the burger, the fries are fabulous if you like them steak cut and crispy. (In the center of The Strip by Flamingo Road.)
Level 107 Lounge, (formerly the Romance Lounge,) at the Stratosphere, located on the north end of the fabulous Las Vegas Strip, features the most spectacular views in town. Level 107 Lounge sits on a circular balcony high up in the Stratosphere Tower. Low lights and a deep red décor combined with great cocktails and incredible breathtaking views, make this a great place to unwind or to create a most memorable experience. Level 107 also overlooks the restaurant which makes appetizers available. Live music by Afterglow between 9 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. is a plus on Wednesday through Saturday nights. Afterglow has a unique sound that combines Jazz, Pop, and Contemporary music.
SPOTLIGHT: The Silverton Hotel
The Silverton Hotel is worth a mention here. It is no where near anything on the Las Vegas Strip, but if you just happen to have some extra time on the way in or out of Las Vegas from the Los Angeles direction, or if you simply want to get out of the traffic if your timing allows, there are several deals here. They have no choice but to bribe you since they are so out of the way from Las Vegas proper. Although, they do have easy freeway access at Highway 15 and Blue Diamond Road!
The Silverton Hotel has an aquarium as their major attraction. This is no ordinary aquarium as you can expect to see mermaids in addition to 4,000 tropical fish (including three species of stingray and three species of shark.) The room sized curved acrylic tank is located by the bar, and the mermaids put on a 15 minute show every half hour throughout the afternoon and evenings on Thursday through Sunday. During the day, everyday, you can also watch the sharks and stingrays being fed in the afternoon at 1:30 and 4:30 or in the evening at 7:30 p.m. There are also a few creatively lit small jellyfish aquariums in the bar.

Las Vegas is famous for its food specials. There was a time you could get a complete steak dinner for $2. Those days may be gone, but overall, the cost of dining in Las Vegas is still better than in many parts of the country. How long has it been since you've really had a blast? Is Las Vegas on your list of fun places to go? Learn what the locals know about having a good time on a budget. Their Staycation just may be your dream! Since there is a major difference between catching a bite to eat and fine dining, or finding a drink and clubbing, we will be looking at these subtitles: Breakfast Lunch and Snacks, All You Can Eat Buffets, Restaurant Dining, Where to Get Cheap Drinks, andNightclubs and Lounges With No Cover Charge.
Eat and Drink For Less
Free Comps are anything but free. The casino management will be glad to give you a meal, pay for your room, or get you some show tickets. All you have to do is win or lose a lot of money. They rate you by how long you gamble, and how much you gamble. You have to sign up for their slot club or their table games club, insert your Player's Card into the machine or ask to be rated at the tables. Then after four hours you will likely qualify for some kind of Comp. After four hours of gambling, you will also have likely spent more than the Comps were worth!
Just the same, many of the specials require a Player's Club Card. It's not required that you use the card, only that you have one. And naturally, every casino has its own club. Fortunately, several of the clubs share an owner, and will honor cards from their affiliates. Club Cards are free, but for those of you who consider the Club Card thing just a little too much of a hassle, I will point out which specials require a card, and which ones don't.
Locals also tend to frequent their neighborhood casinos rather than the touristy ones; and the neighborhood prices are lower across the board. But when you come to Las Vegas on vacation you're not expected to spend an hour crossing town to find an obscure place to eat, so this list will focus on places within a mile of The Strip, and on Freemont Street (downtown.) If you were to do an exhaustive internet search you could find many of the same deals listed here, they do all advertise, but this will simplify matters for you. There is no way for me to cover all of the choices, as there are hundreds; and the establishments are not under my control, so they may change their specials; but this is where I'd go for specials on a regular basis. I hope you enjoy the variety and the prices.
Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks

I must admit this paradise has a few drawbacks. One of the drawbacks is that you need to rent a tube or a raft to truly experience the lazy river . I believe the rental is $15 per tube per day. The MGM Grand is known to run special promotions where you can get the rental cheaper, free or 2 for 1. Before you book your room bellagio las vegas hotel you should check out websites with coupons for MGM (just go to Google and type coupons MGM Las Vegas in to the search - early vegas is a good one). The second drawback is that the pool complex is located quite far from the guest elevators. You need to walk through the promenade with stores and restaurants to get to the pool, but the walk is well worth it.

dishes to enjoy during the game

One of the most popular Super Bowl Party foods is a hot bowl of chili. Whether you like it spicy, loaded with beans or rather plain, no one can resist a bowl of chili on a   cold football afternoon. Another staple Super Bowl food is the infamous little Smokies. These little sausages can be doused in BBQ sauce, wrapped in bacon, or even deep fried for a crispy outer layer. And if you're going to be doing some deep frying why not get out the Indoor Butterball Turkey fryer and fry up a turkey for the crowd or even just some snacks like onion rings, fried mushrooms, or some mini corn dogs.
And if you are lucky enough to have a deep fat fryer, especially one as convenient as the Indoor Butterball Turkey Fryer, you could probably even whip up some sweet treats like fried ice cream, deep fried Snickers, or even a funnel cake. I mean come on you can let your diet slip for the Super Bowl right? Afterward it is only one day and you can work extra hard the following week to burn off all those extra calories you got.

Today's pressure cookers bear small resemblance to the early models that baking recipes  were on the market during the fifties and sixties. I remember watching a TV show about women who went around the country cleaning other peoples houses and tut-tutting at all the dirt and grime that they found. Now I'd never let them into my house, not because it's particularly untidy or dirty but I'm sure that they'd find something to complain abut. One thing that struck me however was how they used vinegar in a number of ways EggPlant Recipes  to help clean the house whether it be cleaning, stain removal or in doing the laundry shortbread recipe  yet most of us think about vinegar when it comes to cooking.

Remember that too much heat at once can mess up your meal so try going slowly and easy.
Outdoor, or "campstyle" Dutch ovens are specially made to sit on three legs. Other dishes that can be created

We will start out with the flat pastas which include lasagna, linguini, fettuccini and papparadelle. Dried Lasagna noodles are usually about 2-3" wide and can be purchased in boxes either uncooked or precooked. Domestic lasagna noodles are longer than the imported ones; however most of the imported ones are of a better quality. You can usually also purchase fresh pasta which can be used for lasagna from your local Italian deli. Lasagna may either be served simply with a Bolognese (meat) sauce with shredded parmesan or more traditionally as a layered casserole. The sauce for lasagna can vary from marinara (tomato) to Bolognese, mushroom, vegetarian or seafood. There will usually be a layer of pasta, a layer of ricotta cheese, a layer of sauce and a layer of mozzarella. Sometimes the pasta  pictures of birthday cakes and cheese is layered without the sauce and the sauce is added at serving time.
The narrowest of the flat pasta is linguini; linguini is long narrow pasta (about " wide) which can be served with any number of sauces. A favorite that is served with linguini are clams in either a white wine sauce or a spicy red sauce. The next size up is fettuccini which is usually served with an Alfredo sauce (cream or bchamel) made with butter, heavy cream and parmesan. It is utterly delicious, easy and simple to make and loaded with calories. Not for those who have to watch their cholesterol intake!
One this is done then fry the meat in a dry pan stirring it constantly so it doesn't stick. Once it has become brown it is now quiet dry so you are going to want to add some moisture to it as well as flavor. You can take a package of dry onion soup mix and add two cups of water to this and stir well.
Then add this to the meat, and let it simmer on low. At this time add your salt and pepper and  snickerdoodles recipe any other seasonings that you like as well. Make a thin paste out of some flour and water and after you have brought the water and meat to a boil, add the thin flour paste to it so it will thicken. You will now have a great hamburger dish with onion gravy that tastes great.
Other dishes that can be created are hot vegetable sauces, such as spinach or artichoke dips. To the base, a cheese such as parmesan is added, along with chopped spinach and or artichokes. Salt and pepper are a given, but many people like to add a little kick to their sauce. To this easy cookie recipes  end, they'll add some Tabasco into the mixture. This can be served over fish, or some people like to lap it up with slices of French loaf bread, or with hearty and sturdy crackers. There are some recipes that use this base for their creations. One would be some honey mustard. The cook would simply add in honey and a rich brown mustard. Some might use simple yellow mustard, and then add in white wine. This is great for serving over fish, or ham. Then still, another recipe would be a Japanese wasabi. The wasabi is a green horseradish paste, but it's extremely hot and spicy, to the point of making your eyes and nose water. So, diluting it would make it creamy and easier to digest, and yet this recipe would still have that wasabi flavor and kick that people have grown to know and love.

Santiago Night Life – Dominican Republic

Santiago has a bustling nightlife. Most of the fun after hours usually happens at the venue located outside the main district. At night the place abounds with people and noise coming from bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Despite those areas, there are several areas that are not well known to many tourist but it still thrives.

There is a tiny middle class district which is frequented more by the locals. This place also has lots of bars and restaurants. Tourist are safe when venturing into such areas. Here you will find many fine restaurant with delicious local Dominican food and bars playing local Caribbean songs.

There are also some areas you should stay away from. Do not forget to go to a tourist center when you arrive in Santiago. They will let you know what areas are safe for tourist and what areas to avoid. These places change from time to time, so your tourist center guide should be able to educate you properly.

The legal age for drinking and gambling in Dominican Republic is 18 years. Though you may find locals who are below 18 years involved in drinking and gambling, do not encourage yourself if you are below 18 years or someone else with you who is below 18 years to follow them. If you are caught, you will pay heavily. Some clubs, restaurants and bars stay open all night.

There are many bars, clubs and restaurants in Santiago. Here are a few of them.

Fracifol Bar: This is a very classy bar in Santiago. Though drinks are quite expensive, you will not regret spending your time in this bar.Beer’s cost anywhere from $4 to $9. The TV in the bar is constantly on and showing baseball games all through the night. It’s a pretty cool place to meet locals and experience Santiago the local way.

The Best Place in Dominican Republic to Buy Real Estate

I asked Bruce Pierson of Dominican Paradise why he felt that Las Terrenas was beginning to hear the whispers of interest from investors throughout the world and how long he felt before the world awakened to opportunities that are present there.

Bruce writes, Unlike many of the coastal towns in the Dominican Republic, Las Terrenas has been mostly undiscovered by major economic tourism and development. The Peninsula of Samana was mainly an eco-tourism destination and the perfect hideaway for many Europeans expats.

Most of the desired real estate is not owned yet by foreign investors or all-inclusive hotel chains; instead much of it is still owned by Dominican families and is still affordable.

This is about to change. The new international airport, El Catey (25 minutes drive from Las Terrenas), is now operational. Long distance carriers from Europe and The Americas are now bringing tourists directly in the Samana Peninsula.

In May 2005 construction began on the new Santo Domingo – Samana Highway that will reduce the drive time from 5 hours to less than 90 minutes.

In the past year alone, 4 all-inclusive, 5 star Bahia Principe resorts have opened in the peninsula, with a total of 1,600 rooms. The major project Las Terrenas Country Club is already under construction and selling its villas and condos on the golf course, designed by the world renowned Dye family.

A marina project, called Puerto Bonito, with 150 slips, is also under construction near Las Terrenas

Chains such as Wyndham and Melia have acquired properties and options on several of the available land plots, narrowing the window of available real estate in the area.

We believe that there is a 3 to 6 year window of opportunity to purchase land for development in the area of Las Terrenas, and, the sooner the better. It is likely that 2 to 3 years after completion of the new international airport and highway, the prices of real estate will have drastically increased, catching up to and equaling the other Caribbean Islands.

In addition to the developments and chains mentioned above, more than 20 more projects are currently underway in Samana. Presently, investing in Las Terrenas is not only about investing in one of the most beautiful areas in the Caribbean, but also about the possibility of getting an excellent ROI. We foresee land prices will continue rising, minimum, at a yearly rate of about 35%. Compared to the low rates of ROI in Europe and the US, this signifies great potential for earnings with minimal risk.

I spoke a great deal with Bruce, who moved Las Terrenas twenty years ago. His interest and love for the area goes far beyond financial and economical interest. The DR is arguably the most beautiful spot in the Caribbean, referred to by many as The Land of Dreams. Las Terrenas boasts a magical strip of 15 kilometers of virgin beach, and a town with more than 40 international restaurants including everything from Italian, French, and Swiss cuisine to Japanese sushi bars. It offers as well a broad selection of available activities including horseback riding, golf, scuba diving, windsurfing, tennis and many more within just minutes of town.

Bruce, who has made the Las Terrenas his own, sees the area as an unspoiled paradise where the inhabitants ride motorcycles instead of cars, and all share a sense of community that makes it a magical place to raise a family. Bruce, who spent time with the Peace Corps and has traveled a majority of the world is not hesitant to pronounce Las Terrenas one of the most magical places I’ve been to.

And as others come to see the same unique qualities that Bruce has, you cant help but to realize that there is a premium to be paid for paradises like this. You should keep up to date on the trends of Dominican real estate and be ready to buy.

The Dominican Republic Real Estate Picture Looks Brighter Every Day

Of course, making a profit on a large scale land purchase or getting a big money return for your dollar is not the only reason people spend hours perusing Dominican Republic offerings. The country has its own special charm and a unique style that appeals to many who are either looking to move or to at least own a little space in a tropical paradise. Founded by Christopher Columbus in 1492 as Spain’s first holding in the New World, this republic is now the second largest of the Caribbean “island nations” (after Cuba). Its size and history ensures that Dominican Republic real estate listings are able to offer something for just about everyone.

From impressive mountain ranges, four on the main island of Hispaniola, to gently sloping farms and finally to the soft sandy shores of the beaches, there is a terrain to suit almost anyone’s taste on the menu when you shop for Dominican Republic rentals or real estate. You will find thriving cities such as Santo Domingo; the Capitol of the Republic and the oldest city in the country can provide plenty of homes, apartments, office buildings and listings to tempt you. You will also find that there are small towns, farming villages and remote retreats up in the mountaintops. There is such a rich and diverse variety of real estate in the Dominican Republic that one would be hard pressed not to find just what they are looking for here.

While the earthquake did not do any significant structural damage on the Dominican side of the island of Hispaniola, the nation has seen its share of natural and man-made disasters. It is no stranger to war, but has been co-existing peacefully with its neighbors and within its own borders for quite a few years now. More recently hurricanes have pummeled the island. Dominican Republic real estate has the dubious honor of being part of the hurricane breaker zone. Frequently, large and perilous storms batter themselves against the many mountain ranges and, when they emerge at last after soaking the sugar plantation of the plains, they are not quite as strong or ferocious. Still, insurance costs are one thing to consider when seriously considering a purchase of real estate in the Dominican Republic.

It’s as old as European civilization gets in this part of the world. It has a wide range of geography to provide for a broad scope of living and working environments and is a land of style, charm and grace. If your search of international real estate offerings includes a potential investment in the Caribbean, then be sure you take the time to investigate all that the Republic has to offer.

Dominican Republic Defies Tourism Market – Keeps Growing

Throughout the world, there has been a decline in tourism. That decline has, however, missed the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic has managed to attract tourists year after year, and with plans from investors and new routes promised by airlines, it would appear the Dominican Republic is going to continue to grow in the area of tourism.

With so many markets struggling, the Dominican Republic has managed to see a 6.55% increase in tourism for the first part of 2008. That increase is thanks to the 2.2 million people that traveled there in the opening months of the year. People continue to go to the area, despite tourism trends in other areas of the world.

The world is noticing the strong tourism market in the Dominican Republic. Because of that, investors are getting in on the action. The first indication that tourism in the Dominican Republic was going to exceed even current expectations was when a development group from the Balearic Islands decided they wanted in on the opportunity to invest.

The group intends to invest 3.7 billion Euros over a four year time period in order to build up the tourism industry. With the money, they want to work on a railway linking Santiago and Santo Domingo. The railway promises to help the tourism market by making traveling in the region easier.

With the railroad, Santiago, Santa Domingo and everywhere in between are expected to grow. They will be able to lure in more tourists, and they will then be able to offer even more development to the area. The area is already quite popular, and with the money being used, it will be able to become even more enticing to tourists.

With the sound tourism market, along with the promise of more money going into the Dominican Republic, airlines are making changes so they can bring even more tourists in. For the first time, JetBlue Airlines plans to launch an intra-Caribbean service. The service is going to start in the winter, and will have continuous, non stop flights between San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.

Also, Delta Airlines is going to be adding more flights to the Dominican Republic this winter. It is believed these added flights will bring more people to the area, thus boosting tourism even more. It will be easier than it has ever been for tourists to get on a plane and visit the area.

The growth in tourism has greatly helped the economy in the Dominican Republic, and it is projected to make the economy even healthier in the years to come. Right now, there are 550,000 jobs that were created by tourism in the Dominican Republic. That number is expected to rise to 743,000 by 2018. The economy has become stable due to tourism, and it looks as if it will continue to strengthen as more jobs are created.

As the economy strengthens, there is even more for tourists in the Dominican Republic. The area is able to continue to build because of the strong economy, and through the building tourists have more options when they visit the Dominican Republic. The economic boost has helped those who live in the Dominican Republic, along with those who visit on vacation.

During unsure times across the world, the Dominican Republic has managed to remain strong in tourism. People like the fun and tranquility the Dominican Republic offers, which is why they continue to come back year after year. The area has devoted time and resources to tourism, and that has paid off with job creation and a stronger infrastructure. The tourism industry is expected to grow through the years, and current trends show the Dominican Republic tourism industry can survive, even when tourism throughout the rest of the world is facing uncertain times.

A Miracle Or an Incredible Coincidence on a Highway in the Dominican Republic

A miracle is described as an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause. A coincidence, on the other hand, is a striking occurrence of two or more events at one time apparently by mere chance.

How do you know if a miracle has occurred in your life, and it was not “one lucky day!” which favors the fortunate? Let me explain what happened in early April 2009, and perhaps you will understand why I am convinced that a miracle occurred in the ‘wink of an eye.’

I was driving on a highway in the Dominican Republic at around nine in the evening. My boss, his business partner and I were going from the city of Santiago to Puerto Plata. When it is not raining, I can make the drive in an hour and a half at most. On this particular night there was a constant drizzle, and the windshield wipers on our rental car were worn-out and ineffective.

The most exciting part of traveling to the Dominican Republic is the people, and the weather is fabulous-when it is not raining, that is! There is a constant breeze from the ocean which permeates the entire island with the fragrance of exotic plants, ripe fruits, and flowers in full bloom. The people are friendly and very cooperative.

We had spent the entire day in Santo Domingo, and we were on our way home. I stopped in Santiago for gas and coffee. I was ready for the next leg of driving, and night had set in. When you are on the open highway, visibility is minimal. If your rental car has poor headlights and worn-out windshield wipers, like ours had, you can get into serious trouble. Since the start of the long drive from Santo Domingo earlier in the evening, I also had to keep tight control of the car for it had a tendency to veer to the left-meaning, the car was also out of alignment to add to my misery.

The main highways in the Dominican Republic are quite ample, and with at least two lanes one way, and two going the other way with plenty of mid-center guard protection. One great asset to throw-in is the wide shoulders on both sides of the road for emergencies. However, here is the biggest and most dangerous factor to consider when driving in the Dominican Republic: many cars and motorcycles drive at night with minimal or no lights at all. These vehicles are so old and worn-out that they simply have no lights left to turn on. But there they are going at fifteen to twenty miles an hour and on the fast lane, nonetheless, and at all hours of the day and night. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the driver with a good vehicle and a decent set of headlights to avoid crashing into them, or very likely get everyone hurt in the process.

When I go to the Dominican Republic, I help a friend of mine with the repairs of his cargo ship which has been there since last October. I drive very carefully considering all the obstacles that may come up on you suddenly, e.g., stray animals, people crossing the highway, slow cars and motorcycles, bicycles, huge potholes, and more. On this particular evening, I was tired and exhausted from driving all over Santo Domingo looking for repair parts for the ship, and the countless conversations I had to translate from Spanish to English, and back to Spanish for my friend and his business partner who are owners of the cargo ship.

What happened this night, I will never forget! Driving on a four-lane portion of highway between Santiago and Puerto Plata, and only a few miles out of the city, I kept my lights high for better visibility. Whenever a car came on the opposite lanes, I would drop the lights. After a few minutes of raising and dropping the lights I just left the lights in the lower position. I maintained the lights that way for about ten minutes, and I was driving on what we call ‘the fast lane’- that’s the lane closest to the median. At least in the U.S. we call it that, but in the Dominican Republic it is the lane that anyone can use, and at any speed they wish to go day and night. Apparently, there is a distinction between fast and slow lanes there, but if there is, probably no one really cares, as was the case this evening.

I remember now that I had fallen into a ‘minor trance’ watching the highway in front of me. All that I could I could see with my glasses on and the lights on low was fifty feet of highway, at most. By now the rain was coming down harder, and my eyes were only seeing ‘one-empty-dark-wet-night’ up ahead. I was driving at a speed of fifty to fifty-five miles per hour, when suddenly I got an ‘urgent impulse’ to raise the headlights that instant.

When I flicked the light lever on-high, I could not believe my eyes at what came into my line of vision! On the edge of my car headlights’ beam, and barely visible was a slow-moving motorcycle with two people riding in the middle of my lane. The motorcycle’s tail light was off, or it had no lights to turn on. To top it off, both riders had dark clothing on. They became visible only by the illumination of the headlights. The motorcycle driver and his passenger should have been riding on the left or right shoulders of the road for their own safety. I suppose they were using the lights from the incoming cars to guide them on the highway, as they thrust forward in the rain. They had no clue of the high-speed vehicle coming towards them on a collision course, and seconds away from a ‘fatal accident.’

The rider and his passenger were going at around fifteen miles an hour, and I was flying in my little economy car at fifty-five. The gap between my car and the motorcycle was closing terribly fast, and all that I saw was pending disaster coming upon all of us and real soon! When my two passengers witnessed the situation that I was in, they screamed at the ‘top of their lungs’ right into my ear, but I kept my control. I had two choices to make in three seconds or less, and with absolutely no margin for error: one, drive the car to the left and get on the muddy shoulder and try my best to go around the motorcyclist and his passenger without losing control of the car; two, swing over to the right lane and stay on the wet pavement and avoid hitting them with my car. Trying to stop the car by putting on my brakes was definitely not an option. I simply had no time to think (or breathe for that matter), but to take the best course of evasive action and save lives-ours included.

As tired as I was, my driving instincts took over, and I chose to go to the right. I am glad to say that I missed the motorcyclist and his rider by a mere three feet, if that. As I flew by them, I never stopped the car and neither did I reduce my speed. When I looked in my rear-view mirror, all that I saw was darkness. The motorcyclist did not even have his front lights working either. I just kept-on driving towards my destination with life-the happier for being able to see another day.

Was it a miracle that happened that evening on the highway in the Dominican Republic, or just one incredible coincidence? Both of my passengers commented afterwards that I would have raised the headlights sooner or later, since I had been doing it all along on the highway. I know deep inside of me that ‘later’ in this case could have been fatal for everyone. Thinking about the incident now, I might have panicked at the sight of the pending accident, or the screaming inside the car, and make the wrong decision. I did not, and I made the right decision!

What my friends said may be true, I will concede. Perhaps it was “my lucky night,” but to see your life and that of others be saved by a car maneuver that required a plan of action; decide on the safest option; and to execute your choice on a dark and rainy night all in the span of ‘three seconds max’ and at the speed that we were going, is nothing less than a miracle-in my judgment anyway-and for that I am grateful.

Is a miracle granted, or is it received only by request to the Almighty? I never had a chance to pray, nor ask for help that night. The entire episode was too fast for me to think of anything else, other than to avoid crashing into two, not too smart, but still innocent people, nevertheless. My understanding of miracles is that God may perform a miracle at His will, and in many cases, people are given the power to perform miracles. In our case, I know that a miracle was performed to spare our lives (whether we deserved it or not!), without any of us having had to request it. My two passengers are confirmed Atheist and do not believe in God, and even less in miracles; and the motorcyclist and his passenger had absolutely no idea how close they came to losing their lives that fateful night.
